Doctor of Business Administration, DBA
The DBA was originally developed by the Harvard University (USA), to achieve knowledge transfer between the needs of business practice and academic research. The DBA basically corresponds to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), but the focus is on the application of theoretical knowledge in practice. The DBA is strongly anchored in the world economy and thus particularly suitable for people from the workplace. The U.S. Department of Education and the British Economic and Social Research Council recognized "the DBA as equivalent to a PhD”.
The Central Office for Foreign Education Secretariat of the Permanent Conference of Ministers of Education in the Federal Republic of Germany (www.anabin.de) describes the DBA study as follows:
"This is an application-oriented, to the needs of industry and business-oriented doctoral program in contrast to the much more research orientated Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The target group is managers in industry and business with professional experience who want through applied research knowledge expand and extend their skills for administrative and management purposes."
Prerequisites for the DBA
Admission is solely determined by our partner university. We check in advance, upon receipt of your documents, the possibility of admission to do a doctorate. For this reason, the requirements listed below are only to be regarded as guidelines:
- Completed university studies or
- Completed college degree, depending on the college. Upgrading option via the MBA of our partner university
- Completed master's degree, depending on the institution. Upgrading option via the MBA of our partner university
- Completed bachelor's degree may combine MBA and doctorate
Procedure
1. You send us the following documents:
- CV in English
- Diploma and degree certificate of the highest-ever academic education
- One colour passport photo in JPG file format
- Photocopy of passport / identity card (double-sided)
- Copies of all academic education and references
- if available: English test (TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent)
- if available: Publication List
- one page description of the dissertation topic in English
2. The documents you provide are first scrutinized by us and then passed on to our partner University. You will receive within four weeks a decision from us on your admission to doctoral studies.
3. Personal presentation at the University (first appointment on Cyprus)
- Presentation, introduction and getting to know the professors
- Presentation and discussion of the topics
4. progress presentation ("research report") of the selected theme (once per year on Cyprus)
- Scientific work presentation to the Thesis Progress Committee (TPC)
- Discussion and questions for the candidates
- Hand in to the TPC of the scientific work to date
5. Defense of the thesis and oral examination before the TPC, acceptance of the dissertation by the TPC
6. Promotion celebration and presentation of the certificate
